Highlights:
The Philippine men’s national football team conquered Myanmar via powerful kicks and strong defense, 2-0, in Southeast Asian Games 2025 Thailand Men’s Football held at Stadium in Chiangmai, Thailand, December 5 2025.
Azkals squad came back stronger as they vanquished Myanmar, securing a dominant victory to break a three-tournament losing streak in the year 2019, 2021, and 2023 group stages.
Alex James Monis powered his team to a win with his quick moves and making an own goal.
“It’s overwhelming knowing na pinaghirapan talaga namin ito, hindi biro ang training na pinagdaanan nila,” Philippine’s coach Mcpherson Garrath James stated. “Makikita talaga yung unity ng team, talagang binantayan namin yung mga magagaling na kalaban, sabi ko sa kanila na bantayan ang magagaling na kalaban and prayers, yun lang.”
Meanwhile, just before the game started Monis unleashed a powerful strike with an assist by Dylan Demunyck to open the scoring and give their team an early 1–0 lead.
However, Myanmar goal keeper, Hein Htet Soe showcased strong defense as the Philippine group kept trying to goal.
“Actually, we were shocked with the Philippines, they did a good job,” Myanmar’s coach Kurosaki Hisashi said. “We did not foresee it, we think of defenses that will stop them to goal.”
Moreover, Dylan Demunyck generated an own goal putting his team in control, 2-0.
Furthermore, Monis tried to score but he failed as the ball hits the cross bar followed by an another attempt from their substitute, Lucero John Albert Luis but this time Myanmar’s goal keeper clenched on.
With the result, the Azkals team stole the top spot in Group C and will face Indonesia on December 8, 2025.
