During the press briefing they tackle the proposal of the trisemester in the school year 2026-2027. When the time passed, the students now and during the pandemic were completely different because the students were only inside the house and just can search and not totally focus on answering and learning the modules that teachers give them, it leads them to learning gaps.

In the times of pandemic the learning gaps of students were widened to affect academic performances, social-emotional development and overall educational quality and this time, the COVID-19 was not a good thing in terms of helping students learn especially only having a modular.

As the secretary of Department Education (DepEd) said, applying this trimester, this helps students learn more and have a nice educational quality.

From Learning Gaps to Learning Growth

This helps students who struggle in some subjects and can help them concentrate without extra curricular activities.

Although this is still a proposal in shifting this to the year 2026-2027 it can give a learning quality, well-being of students and is crucial for pandemic recovery.

Also, they are reforming the calendar “enhance for both learners and teachers as hell,” to education experience.

Understanding the Proposed Trimester System

In times when students, teachers and families think on how this affects or helps them for the goodness of all.

Although, the students who were hearts of proposed change and for the teachers, have many curricular changes in terms of planning lessons and the family is the financial capacity, transmutation and their proposal supports family.

The Department Education (DepEd) has not only focused on the academics of the students but also considered the needs of the family so that they can spend time together.

Impact on Students, Teachers, and Families

For SY 2026–2027, the 201 school days will be distributed across three trimesters: First Trimester – from early June to September; Second Trimester – from September to December; and Third Trimester – from January to late March.

DepEd said classes are expected to open in early June, aligning with the country’s traditional academic calendar while introducing structural improvements.

Under the proposed DepEd trimester system, the school year will be divided into three academic terms, each with longer instructional and enrichment blocks designed to minimize disruptions and allow sustained lesson delivery.

Moreover, DepEd said each term will include an Instructional Block (54–61 days) dedicated to uninterrupted teaching and learning with minimal non-academic disruptions.

Each term will also include an Enrichment Block, allocated for remediation, enrichment activities, grade computation, preparation and checking of school forms, and wellness breaks.
